Heilbad Heiligenstadt & Vitalpark
Heilbad Heiligenstadt, the county town of the Eichsfeld, is also known as the "Town of Ten Towers". Half-timbered houses, three Gothic churches and a charming pedestrian zone invite you to explore – just 15 minutes from our guesthouse.
Along Wilhelmstrasse, the roughly one-kilometre-long pedestrian zone, small cafes, restaurants and shops line up side by side. Three Gothic churches shape the townscape: St Mary's with its distinctive twin towers, the hilltop church of St Martin, and St Aegidien. The baroque cloister garden in the heart of the old town is a green oasis for a quiet break.
In the Theodor Storm Literary Museum you can learn how the famous author lived in Heiligenstadt from 1856 to 1864 and wrote some of his best-known novellas here. The Eichsfeld Museum in the baroque Jesuit College tells the story of the region across three floors.
The Heinrich Heine Spa Park is an oasis of calm with Kneipp pools, a brine fountain and a pond with a fountain. At the Geislede waterfall, which inspired Theodor Storm's fairy tale "The Rain Maiden", a life-size wooden sculpture of the legendary figure stands. From May to September, free spa concerts take place on Sundays in the bandstand.
A stroll through town pairs perfectly with a visit to the Vitalpark: thermal baths, eight saunas ranging from an earth sauna to a Finnish sauna, a rasul, sauna garden and tower bar – ideal for relaxing after an active day.

Our tip: stroll through the old town in the morning and relax in the Vitalpark in the afternoon. If you are staying with us over Easter, do not miss the Palm Sunday procession – a UNESCO cultural heritage event and a truly special experience.
